4/3- Easter  I saw this cute Easter bunnies on Pinterest and knew it would be a great lesson to talk about the art element line and patterns! The kids really enjoyed this craft, as did the IA's and SA's.  Click Here for the Easter Bunny Idea 4/10- Water if Life Poster Sweetwater Authority, the water company that supplies water to the school and parts of Chula Vista, is having a poster contest that I thought would be cool to enter. We talked about water conservation and how entering art contests, even simply ones like these, are how some artists start out.  4/17- Japanese Kimonos & Spring Blossoms The kids enjoyed this spring art craft, especially blowing with the straws! I didn't really understand how the example one had such perfectly blown lines? I just kept adding water to the paint but they ended up a little blotchy. Daly Academy- March 2018

I'm always looking for unique projects to try with students while incorporating aspects of real world events. This month, definitely exceeded that.  3/6- Dr. Seuss Art Craft  (Read Across America)  I've been on the look out for a good Dr. Seuss craft that isn't too "young" as many of the kids at Daly are older boys. I saw a picture of a painting Truffula tree from the Lorax and almost immediately after I saw an article about a woman who paints with her feet. I put them together, and I got a fun sensory activity the students LOVED. Some of the older kids weren't as interested so they painted with their hands.    Click here for the article of the foot painter 3/13- St. Patrick's Day Celtic Knot NOT my original idea but I saw this celtic knots on TPT and I thought my students would be up for the challenge and they totally were! For my younger students, we did a simple rainbow/stripe on white paper and a cutout of a shamrock to mirror.

Sunnyside Elementary- March 2018

I was only at Sunnyside Elementary once during March, but I made it a huge day.  I also saw a 3rd grade teacher who told me she was grateful we did Powerpoints in February because in her class they were creating Powerpoints and Prezi's and they were able to use the previous experience of creating one with me.  3/9- 1st Grade: Cloudy with a Chance of Meatball Art I remembered doing an art project similar to this in elementary school on Kidpix, so I thought I would try to recreate it. I read students the book Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and talked with students about what it would be like in a place where it was raining food. The assignment was to have students draw themselves into the world of Chewandswallow, the setting in Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, and they had a BLAST.  3/9- After School Program- Virtual Skype Fieldtrip: YellowStone National Park  My after school kids were super excited to come and talk to a real person live over Skype. They defini

Sunnyside Elementary School- January/February 2018

It was a short two months for me at Sunnyside Elementary. My after school students and students I saw in the classroom settings worked on making Powerpoints.  1/19- Powerpoint (After School Program) This general assignment is something I gave to my after school students as well as my 3rd &4th grade students. My students LOVED the idea of creating a powerpoint and went to work straight away. Students enjoy playing around with the design tools, learning how to save & insert photos, and creating something of their own. Unfortunately, only 3 students attended this session because the 5th graders were on a field trip and the 6th graders had just gotten back from camp. Therefore, students worked on this project the next 2 sessions.  2/2- Powerpoint (3rd Grade) Students chose a variety of celebrities from Katy Perry to   2/2- Powerpoint (After School Program) Students continued to create their powerpoints. During this time, the computer lab had turned into a mess
