Welcome!
Hi! My name is Melissa Farlow and I am a Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) Teacher within Chula Vista Elementary School District.
This is my first year teaching and my winter break goal was to create a blog/website to post what I do with students so that I can have something to reflect back on.
My job is also highly unusual and difficult to explain to others because I don't just see one classroom of students at one school. I'm at 3 different schools teaching 3 different arts subjects in 3 completely different environments. Let me do a little recap...
The primary school I am at is Allen Elementary School where I have my own classroom teaching theater. I see all 380 students K-6. I teach here Wednesday's and Thursday's and I see 2 different grades of 2 classes each a day for 70 minutes a class.
For example, in one day I'll see 4th grade (Herrera), 4th Grade (Acosta), 1st Grade (Sinong), 1st Grade (Gurule).
In total, I see each grade about 4-5 times a quarter.
The secondary school I am at is Daly Academy where I go classroom to classroom teaching art. Daly Academy is adjacent to Allen Elementary and is a school specifically for special education students who have behavioral problems. There are approximately 24 students at the school in 3 classrooms. I see each class for an hour on Tuesday's. I have help from the 4-6 instructional aides in each classroom.
Lastly, the third school I am at in Sunnyside Elementary School where I teach digital media in the computer lab. Sunnyside is also in Bonita, just down the road from Allen and Daly. I teach the grades who have two teachers per grade (1st, 3rd, and 4th) and I see one grade every other Friday. I additionally teach an after school computer class where ~18 4th-6th grade students learn about the Microsoft Suite and other computer skills.

If you've make it this far, thanks for reading! I invite you to go back to the home page, click on the Labels tab to the left (or the dashed lines) and select the school you are interested in reading about. I have written small summaries per month or per quarter.
